decades of research and development. It has undergone rigorous research and shown to improve peak power output by 13.7%.
In 1998, Bryan Speight of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain invented the first magnetic breathing device to help those with compromised lung function. Positive tests were conducted on patients suffering from Asthma.
Understanding the possible benefits, Dr Craig Roberts, a leader in Sports and Exercise Medicine, conducted a double-blind clinical trial on the effect of the X-Lung® on exercise performance, the results of which showed an increase in Peak Power Output of 13.7%.
Subsequently, an MSc study was conducted at UKZN on the efficacy of X-lung® on optimising cardiorespiratory function in endurance athletes, results of which not only supported the findings by Roberts but also showed enhanced increases in red blood cells, haemoglobin and lung function.

A multicentre, double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial to test the effects of the magnetic induction of inhaled oxygen on athletic performance.
The dissertation was prepared by Dr Craig Roberts (ref no: RBRCRA002) towards the requirement for the Master of Philosophy Degree in Sports Medicine (MPhil) awarded by the University of Cape Town.

Professor Andrew Bosch, PhD
Professor Andrew Bosch is an Exercise Scientist based at the University of Cape Town and Sports Science Institute of South Africa. An NRF-rated scientist, Professor Bosch has published over 90 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in the field of exercise performance and sports nutrition in international journals, written a number of book chapters on these topics, presented at national and international scientific conferences and serves on the editorial boards of international exercise & sports medicine journals.
Professor Bosch is the Chair of the American College of Sports Medicine Endurance Athlete Science & Medicine Interest Group, is Co-Chair of the International Sub 2hrs Marathon Project and serves on the committee of the International Association of Ultra-Running Scientific Commission.
Once a competitive national level athlete with a marathon best time of 2hrs 21mins, Professor Bosch still runs recreationally, managing about 100km per week when not injured. He now enjoys combining his academic expertise with his past running experience to coach a number of distance runners, from beginner to Olympic level.
Professor Bosch supervised the studies conducted by Dr Craig Roberts towards his MPhil degree in Sports & Exercise Medicine, which established the performance benefits attributable to the use of the X-Lung.
